New Naval Unit Proposal - Corvettes/Frigates

The second idea for a new Naval unit concocted by my brother and me would be Corvettes and/or Frigates, such as the British Castle-class corvettes or Frigates of the same era, such as the Captain-Class Frigate.

Historically, they were smaller than Destroyers, and generally used for escort duty. They were also fairly quickly produced both before and during the war. For this game, the idea would basically be "Militia of the seas". Thus for game purposes, we were thinking of some of the following for stats;

  • Low Research Costs and quick research time.
  • Low food and medium oil upkeep.
  • Basic Attack and Defense stats; we're thinking 1.5 against Subs, 1.0 against surface ships, and 0.3 against aircraft. Attack stats would be slightly lower.
  • Low speeds; give or take 25 kph.
  • HP equal to around 1/2 to 2/3 that of a Destroyer.
  • Attack range of at least 10 km, maximum of 15 km.
  • Would require a Level 1 Port, and a level 1 factory.
These would essentially be escorts for convoys, or very cheap and easy to produce Navy units. My brother thinks they could also be useful as scouts.

As usual, let me know what you guys think, what's bad and what's good. (And yes, I am aware that stuff like this may have been discussed in the past; give me a break; I'm still new to the forums).

I like it. PT boats, LVT, LVI, LVT (A), frigates, corvettes, AA barges, armed convoys, I want it all!

Mess with the Bill, you get the scorn!

YES MORE SHIPS FOR THE NAVY, WE NEED MOAR!!

But I'm worried not the balance but what it will do in game, as escorts there main duty is to protect convoys, with the current update of increase oil upkeep, most naval units like convoys now having defense stats or getting increase like the Cruiser, I'm worried it will be too complicated for the new players, with all those ships having specific roles, and the oil cost being shared with armor and planes, oil will be so abused other branch of the military is either too small or too large and won't be immediately replaced in the constraint of upkeep.

The frigates are more of the "militia" of the navy, acting not escorts but stop gap ships to counter a threat like subs immediately, with the latest update the destroyer and cruiser are more effective now. It will be useful to those like UK, Italy and those Med countries, but without the Pacific map they will just be another under used militia.

I would also like to suggest to increase the defense stat on subs and planes a bit higher, overall it's not a bad idea but not the most needed at the moment

His name is Jacob. He's in the same alliance as me, but he hasn't gotten on the forums yet.

Hi folks! I think we need no more ships except the carrier!

The small vessels are already part of the transport convoys, the give this ships the strength against subs and bombers.

that...actually explain a lot Xarus.

Do you not think that the game needs other thinks more?

@James Hylton

This sounds like a good idea.

Quoted point is what really attracted me as well as the comment about it being the equivalent to a PT Boat.

Hopefully, the development team will see this and consider implementing it soon!

Thumbs up from me.

Would it be better to increase the grain upkeep costs of these proposed ships and lower the oil upkeep costs?

V1nd1cat0r does make a good point about cost of upkeep...

If something of the sort were implemented, I'd could see a use for them for some countries.

I would love 'em. ABB are great because they can cross the Atlantic in half a day with a DD escort, imagine if we gave 'em PT boats! They could do it in 11 or less!

Yes we need all class, but 1st I want air-plane carrier. Escort-carrier will be nice, and near 44 for super-carrier. Different class of cruiser too are important.

But with all the new increased upkeep and production cost it going wrong way, we will not able to field big army and navy.
