There is automatically Food proposed in Market. And sometimes You just forget to change it, You just set the quantity and price in.
Better would be that there wouldn't be proposed Food. Just You click and then choose, what You want to offer.
Then it would be mistake-resistant way of offering. Now mistakes happen.

You certainly can make a buy offer or sell offer in the market.
But then it is dependent on another player or the AI to accept your offer.
What you see in the market are the offers that others have put up. Nothing is automatic. This is global free trade, so anyone who wants to buy and sell places offers, and others can accept them. If nobody has anything to offer, then there is no market.

I think his issue is he forgot to change it from "Food" which is the preset when you open up a trade option. I'm not sure it would be worth the developers having a blank option be the start, to ensure players that aren't paying attention don't put up the wrong offer. It should be blank, until a resource is chosen, but I imagine it ought to be low on the to-do list.

Exactly WiseOdin, it's about preset "Food" as default to trade. While actually food is traded probably 10% of times only, not a very popular even.
I guess "blank" would be best, cause it make no mistakes by forgetting to change food for something else.
