On the subject of Time

So, the past couple of days I have seen many threads about research efforts and what not, so I decided I wanted to talk about that here. We all love Call of War and want to see it succeed, and I do too, but I believe there is one thing that will kill new players to this game and it should be addressed. Time! After I had introduced CoW to the local people in my school, after about a week many of them stopped playing, I wanted to know why so I went around and asked them, "The game is too long and boring, it takes too long to do anything" is what a majority of the people said. I wanted to talk about, in a serious manner at least, what we can do about reducing time to do things, but keeping it at a reasonable level to do it as well.

I have a few suggestions, which is to essentially make every game 2x or 3x the original speed of the game, as a default, players can create original speed games if they'd like. Research needs to be sped up to at least 2x the original speed, with the same options as before. Everything needs to be faster to match the new players coming into the game, so instead of a week to transport troops from Europe to America, make it 2 days or less. Now I am not suggesting that eventually it should take 15 minutes to build a railroad gun or some trash, but I am saying that we should reduce these times needed to produce things, research things, and move things.

I have long wanted a 60x speed round. That will condense a 30 day game into 12 intense hours :D

On a serious note, I think you have a point that there are a lot of players that can't stand the slow pace of the strategy game. There are also a lot of players that prefer the slow pace. At a high speed you are playing it more like a shoot em up game, while the traditional form here involves strategy, skill, planning ahead, and maybe even some luck.

Many people would thrive in a 60x environment, but many would also be unable to focus that much attention on it.

Another factor to consider is revenue. In the current form gold is used as a time machine to increase the speed of everything. There will be little to no incentive to spend gold if your things that take a day only take 24 minutes instead.

When you speed up the game, though by increments where the game is sped up by 2x or 5x, my concern is that whenever I sleep, I am much, much more vulnerable (which I guess would be accurate in that sense), but I don't have somebody else to tell my units what to do for those 8 hours. Also, if I need to be offline for a few hours whether it be for school, work, or something else, I get a disadvantage for being offline. These speedrounds increase this vulnerability. The only games I would want to play are these normal long ones, or games that are around 12 hours long. But with all that goes on, the game would need to be radically simplified to squish it all in 12 hours. I think there is way too much involved for a 12-hour game presently. So if you made a 12-hour game, the game would be VERY different.

Well, I think that the speed rounds now are decent, I am able to take a break for a day and come back and stay relatively okay. Now granted, I'm not saying a CoW game should take 12 hours to complete, just shorten the times to do everything. It's kinda stupid how long most things take, the game shouldn't take a literal month to complete, but it shouldn't be done in one day either.
