Open boarder with inactive players are broken

Hi,

One can sign open boarder agreements with inactive players, then fill up their countries with your own armies, declare war and automatically get half (or all) of their country without a fight... I'm really having troubles seeing that this was the point of open boarders and it just makes this game option extremely gamy?

My suggestion would be to either remove the open boarder option with inactive players completely (although I do see very good reasons for leaving it in) or make foreign armies automatically withdrawn to common boarders if war is declared. Neither option is probably perfect, but the present situation is extremely broken in my mind.

Best regards,

Chris

Often a coalition player is temporarily away long enough to get changed to inactive.

Yes, but you can use this tactic to most inactive players or computer controlled country. The whole situation is just plain broken in my mind and is getting exploited by some players and not exploited by others.

Of course, it this loophole lasts, then every player will have to adapt to it, but then this will become a very different game which at least in my mind is less desirable.

And if your coalition buddy goes inactive, yourself cant really attack them because they could have lots of troops stationed around your country so you cant really attack them either. Fixing the broken open boarder bug is in my mind the easiest way around this particular problem with players going inactive.

1. choose allies wisely

2. even if you give RoW/share map don't let them park their units on your land unless there is good reason and you trust them enough.

Of course, as @DxC said, be careful with what you allow through your territory while you are active.

Nevertheless, it isn't historically inaccurate. As this is what the game promotes, I have no problem with this feature. The best three historical examples I can see right now are :

1) The Takeover of Italy in 1943 and the disarmament of the Royal Italian Army by the Germans fighting in the South, after the arrest of Mussolini,

2) The Takeover of Hungary and Budapest (Operation Margarethe) by german forces in 1944 after the secret negociations between Horty and the soviets were uncovered,

3) The Lapland War, where German troops fought the Finns while retreating to Norway.

In all of these examples, a force which was already in the country has to fight that country when war is declared, resulting in the occupation of land. Nothing different from call of war.

sure, i agree that one should chose your allies wisely and that you should not allow an allied player to park units in your country without good reason. but thats not really the problem im addressing here.

and neither are the three historical examples that are mentioned later as these are examples of former allies turning on each other which is why the troops had access in the first place.

what i am addressing however, is a gamy chance to purposely sign open boarder agreements with all your neighbors, put troops into their countries (as they wont refuse, its the ai allowing them) and when you are well positioned, change your relations to war. then repeat the process over and over again. and that i do not think was the developers intention when creating this game? if it was their intention, then fine, but it wont be a game ill be spending much more time on.

So I guess you are talking about getting RoW with AI to make it easier to kill them. Yea it sometimes makes it easier, "but who cares?", they are easy to kill either way. Play games with more humans if the AI are too easy.

yeah, sorry, im talking about right of way.

this will affect the smaller original ai run countries as well as regular/playable countries where players have gone inactive. i understand there are ways to work around it (play maps with more humans), but on every game ive played so far we all experience people going inactive.

im not saying teh right of way option should be deleted in full as i can see the usage of it and it adds an element to the game, but when its being exploited as it is today, then i think the game is flawed.

if the game is kept the way it is now, then the way to play it (if one wants to win) is to at the very beginning as for right of way to all ai controlled countries, repeat the process with every player-country going inactive and constantly conquer territorry by breaking right of way agreements after positioning your troops. im struggling to see this was the intention from the developers, but this is the way the game is being played by some people today. and it will only grow when more people see it being used.

All experienced players have always set RoW with AI on day 1. It's just the logical thing to do, but it's mainly useful for crossing their territory to get to a real player. AI are super easy to kill regardless. Sounds like you need to find some bigger maps with more activity or check out the player's league.

im mostly playing on the 100 map, but yeah, maybe better to join a player's league
