this is the first paratrooper proposal i actually support, i say yes
Paratroopers
I'd like to see Paratroops added. This might be a WW2 only feature. Paratroops might come with their own "Gooney Bird" aircraft or require research for the aircraft separately. The aircraft has no guns and should be escorted with fighters. Paratrooper drops should be random inside a circle (I'd suggest similar to fighter patrol range). With each research the circle gets smaller. Pinpoint drops not possible as wind plays a factor, but highly advanced paratroops should land very close to the intended area and with luck might land right where you want them. If they miss, you can always march them to the spot.
Paratroop area effects: Part of their mission is to slow enemy units. They do this by sabotage. Units travelling through their cone of influence will travel much slower, or may turn the wrong way at a crossroads. (Reference: Battle of the Bulge where troops changed signs confusing enemy units.) Each research increases the size of their influence area.
Of course they can also slow down enemy units simply because they are in the way. They should have a high damage effect on infrastructure because that is a traditional part of their mission. If they enter an enemy city an option should be available to damage the infrastructure (another way to slow down enemy troops by affecting road quality.)
They are elite troops and should have combat abilities similar to Commandos.

Nice idea, we will think about it in the future.
Should be costly to produce tho, otherwise it'll be the most OP unit in the game. Also personally I don't like the sabotage option ; Paras should just be airborne commandos imo
We need a new airborne infantry unit in this game, but it needs to be based on reality and it needs to be strictly limited in number, either as a defined proportion of a player's infantry or total units, or with a hard cap maximum of no more than 6 or 8 regiments. A World War II strategy game without paratroops is like a Napoleonic Wars game without cavalry, or a World War I game without artillery.VIRVCOBRV wrote:

The existing commando unit desperately needs to be re-worked. It is far over-powered for its size, and, as I predicted at the last major unit "balancing" update, many players are now grinding them out as quickly as they can as a replacement for all other forms of infantry. And why not? The present commando unit only requires half the manpower, consumes half the food, and is twice as powerful as a regular infantry unit, with a huge bonus for mountain battles.
Real world commandos were light infantry that relied on stealth insertions to destroy high-value targets and escape. They were never supposed to function as battalion or regiment-size units and go toe-to-toe with heavy infantry or armor on the line. As a regular combat unit, their specialized training would have been wasted. With the addition of a new airborne infantry unit, commandos should be reworked as a specialized unit whose primary raison d'etre is SABOTAGE, i.e. destroying enemy industrial facilities, air bases, reactors, etc.
MK, I just copied and pasted this from my own thread, because I am not allowed to have a new Airborne thread..
Pros:
- Quicker reinforcements
- The ability to put Commandos/Airborne troops behind enemy lines
- Easier to invade countries
- Would expand the playability
Cons:
- Players could spam airborne
- Airborne could be buggy
- Ideas?
Limits:
- Would not be able to travel on carriers
- Would have to be launched from an airfield
- Will not be able to be recalled from an attack
- You will only be able to do 4 Drops every 10 Hours, these could consist of dropping 4 Battalions, or 4 Divisions.
When Dropping Paratroopers:
- If dropped on a forest province you would have a 40% chance to lose the unit
- L1 Paratroopers would have a 2 Hour loading time (decreases by 20 minutes per Level)
- Would require 120 Oil, and 110 Metal to do a drop.
- When they are flying, they would act like a convoy with the range of an interceptor.
Units and Requirements:
- Airborne Infantry: 1,000 MP, 600 Food, and $760 (L1, excluding Manpower, these would increase by 40 per level.)
- Airborne Artillery: 1,000 MP, 760 Goods, and $1,600 (L1, excluding Manpower, these would increase by 50 per level.)
- Airborne Anti-Tank: 1,100 MP, 780 Goods, and $2,100 (L1, excluding Manpower, these would increase by 65 per level.)
- Airborne Light Tanks: 625 MP, 752 Goods, 740 Oil, 1,645 Metal, and $1,800 (L1, excluding Manpower, these would increase by 70 per level)
Terrain Weakness:
- You would have a 40% chance to lose the unit if dropped on a forest province
- Airborne Artillery, Anti-Tank, and Light Tanks would have a speed decrease when they are traveling through Mountains, Hills, and Urban Environments.
- Ideas? Since Airborne where relatively light, I see no reason why they should have a movement buff when traveling through hills and mountains. This would apply to infantry units.
Terrain Strengths:
- Infantry would have a +50% Defense bonus in Forest, Urban, Hills, and Mountain Environments
- Infantry would have a much faster speed compared to regular infantry, due to the fact they travel light.
- Anti-Tank, Artillery, and Tanks would have a defensive bonus in Forest, Urban, Hills, and Mountains.
Commandos:
- They would act as mobile spy units, they would have a spot range of Naval Bombers.
- Would be able to drop with the Airborne units.
- They should have a medium attack power, and would act as what they are; elite soldiers trained in sabotage and stealth tactics.
- They should not be able to last a large offensive, they should only be able to go up against one infantry unit, they should have to be mixed in with the Airborne units to be able to last an offensive.
Clarification:
- Commandos would count towards the 4 airborne drops per day
- If you want to airdrop an AIRBORNE unit there would be a button next to 'attack and move' that you would click, then select where you want them to go, within range, and they would be on their way.
- If you mix Airborne units with Non-Airborne units, the button would go dark, and you could not airdrop them until you move the non-airborne units away.
- You would be able to mix Commandos, Infantry, Tanks, Artillery, and Anti-Tank, and they could drop together.
- Commandos should be able to destroy Infrastructure, and Factories.
- L1 Airborne Infantry would have a 3.0 attack power against infantry, this would increase by .5 per level
- L1 Airborne Tanks would have a 4.5 attack power against infantry, this would increase by 1.0 per level
- L1 AIrborne Anti-Tank would have a 3.5 attack power against infantry, this would increase by 1.5 per level
- L1 Airborne Artillery would have a 3.0 attack power against infantry, this would increase by 1.5 per level
Im fine with paratroopers but as long as they arent spammed like how subs were spammed in the early days of call of war
I'm sure the last thing every player will do, is spam them against each other and just wreck mapsDramos wrote:

deep inside I can tell someone will do something like that
I have repeatedly voiced my strong support for adding a properly designed airborne infantry regiment to the game, but I have also conditioned my support on their being limited in number, either as a maximum of 6 to 8 regiments (the equivalent of two airborne divisions), or as a percentage of total infantry units in a player's army (say, not more than 10% of total infantry), or some proportional limit in relation to the size of a player's air force.WiseOdin wrote:

Real-life airborne infantry were and are elite infantry fighting units that were expensive and time-consuming to train. Any in-game scenario should prevent their being spammed by making them expensive and time-consuming to produce, and their being strictly limited in number. As I have pointed out in other related threads, the real-world limitation on airborne troops was the ability to deliver them, which required mass fleets of air transports. It required a lot of C-47s (plus gliders) to deliver an airborne division of 10,000 to 15,000 troops and their equipment, when a C-47 could only carry 22 fully-equipped paratroopers at a time. The United States and Britain, the world's two biggest industrial powers, could only deliver three airborne divisions for D-Day and Operation Marketgarden, and no other country could match that air transport capacity in 1943-45.
As someone else suggest above, perhaps another way to address this problem would simply be limiting the number of airborne units that could be air-dropped in any 24-hour period to a total of four regiments.
I wouldnt say making a limit on how much you can drop at a time but just for how much you can have inn general
Found another good airborne PDF, here ya go! (its declassified btw, so don't worry about it)

Here is another PDF too!

British Commandos;
Guys, did you not read this?:
Please stop making new threads on paratroopers, when there are already an absurd amount of them out there!

This was like awhile ago they know its up but choose to leave it up
