Strategic bombers, now THOSE are barely relevant. Would like to see them see more use.
My current observation is that Strategic Bombers are under utilized. When built there is often only one in a stack as a soak off. To make them more attractive as a unit, offer a precision bombing option. If you are going to patrol, the bomber works the same as always, it applies damage to everything in the province.
The programming change would occur if the attack option were chosen. In this instance allow the player to select which improvement he is attacking, and all combat damage that is inflicted after AA and Interceptor defensive fire would be applied to that specific target. This would be in line with WWII strategic bombing protocols, where specific targets were selected (factories, port facilities, air bases or infrastructure improvements).
Impact: If above were implemented, imo it would make strategic bombers a more valuable asset to consider implementing. When a player utilized them, it would cause opponents to consider defensive measures such as AA behind the lines in strategic provinces.

The problem with the in-game strategic bomber is not that it isn't a fair representation of its real world counterpart (at least at the game's level of detail vs. abstraction). It is. The problem is that the strategic bomber role doesn't really fit into the game's tactical dynamics. Strategic bombers' primary role was to destroy industrial facilities, and thereby lessen the ability of the enemy to manufacture new weapons and produce critical manufacturing inputs such as oil, steel, electricity, etc. In a typical round of Call of War, a battle between two countries lasts two or three days, not two or three years, and most players would rather capture their enemy's industrial facilities intact rather than leveling them to the ground. Quite reasonably, most players emphasize the production of tactical bombers, which are unit killers, rather than strategic bombers to destroy enemy industrial complexes.VIRVCOBRV wrote:

very true. my best use for them is as long range recconaisance or meat shield in a stack.MontanaBB wrote:

but I think Peter's suggestion is a good one.

SBs are actually pretty useful in the destruction of an enemy's ICs, etc. In a long war of attrition, it's sometimes best to fund the destruction of the enemy's ability to produce units.
