There should be a new unit in the naval tech tree, the patrol boat (or PT boat), with the level 1 having a 20-30 minute research (I mean, the barracks have a short build time, and militia/infantry have a short research time so you get your army production going, with the naval base's short build time, and a PT boat like this, you can build a navy on the first day, the short build time seems to be a waist right now)
good point guys. i guess i see them as scouts, cheap to produce, and able to find enemy fleets when i want to convoy troops. but, if they are realistic, they would not be able to scout in open water so therefore not so useful as a naval escort. they might take the place of the expensive naval bomber in patrolling coasts. they would be different than subs in that they could break away fro a fight, and they would be fun for people that like to micromanage troops cuz we would be able to watch them zip around. i also see them as having a large patrol circle, much larger than the naval bomber.

Having aircraft carriers, you have a mobile base.
But with PT boats, what would we do about that?
I'm actually thinking of suggesting that we remove the instant trading on the market to make room for some new units I'm looking into. In WW II materials, fuel, tanks, planes, PT boats, etc. could be moved by merchant ships and were. I learned that they also strapped locomotives to them so why not put the railroad gun on it too.
Why not use these PT boats to help spot and protect what the Americans called the Merchant Marines?

I see us having something like 1 aircraft.
We could start the game with one naval base, and 1 patrol boat.
It would give us a navy to work with on the first couple of days.

And for the landlocked countries, they maybe would have an extra interceptor.
Would be a good trade for them, in my opinion.

This would also allow for early game invasions by sea, in my opinion.

Does anybody else want to add on to this idea?

i would like to see it implemented.

I agree.
Anybody else?

I vote with no! Because PT boats never used on high sea. They only was used in shallow waters during the ww2.
The smallest vessels that was used to protect convoys was sloops, corvettes and frigates. These small ships be automatically part of the transport ship brigade in COW.
In COW we have no difference between ocean and coastal waters.

we addressed that issue, @Xarus. pts would be tied to a naval base much like planes are tied to airbases.

Yeah, they can't go like a magical carpet and go wherever it wants.
Its tied to a naval base.
They refuel like planes.

So why you don't use Navel Bombers?
I think it's better to have new ability for harbor with higher level.
Level 2: can spot subs and attack enemy vessels in range of 30 km
Level 3: can spot subs and attack enemy vessels in range of 50 km

also addressed. pt boats would be cheaper, and have a larger patrol circle. also greater range. and it would be fun to micromanage a fast little naval vessel. think about the fun you could have with the tileset. also, a pt boat could be produced in a lvl 1 naval base, and u wouldnt have to build a level 2 airbase to have naval bombers produced at the coast

Faster than destroys, lager range than marine bombers, bigger spotting range and cheaper as the destoys?
So fu**, no transporters will ever be able to cross the sea anymore!
6 Aug 2017, 18:30
yeah but not much offensive capability. very little attack stats. like armored car

If implemented, PT boats had a limited number of torpedos. Don't know how you would factor that in. They were weak with limited range. Mostly used along coasts. They should only have like 10 hit points. They didn't have a lot of defensive capabiltiy. They really weren't a sea going vessel though this game probably wouldn't limit where it could travel. Some games actually have different sea levels that sea-going vessels are allowed to safely travel in. If they venture out further, they can be lost to storms.

from Wikipedia "A PT boat (short for Patrol Torpedo boat) was a torpedo-armed fast attack craft used by the United States Navy in World War II. It was small, fast, and inexpensive to build, valued for its maneuverability and speed but hampered at the beginning of the war by ineffective torpedoes, limited armament, and comparatively fragile construction that limited some of the variants to coastal waters." They were not ocean going vessels.

They would technically refuel on supplies to while it is patrolling.
They are like planes, but they are tied to a naval port.

And, they would maybe have be docked at a 5 or 20 star city on the ocean, or any available sea provinces.
If they are landlocked, they get another interceptor.
Like how some of the cities have air bases, they start out with naval bases.

There should be some upgrade levels for it, but not to many.
