Well, that's an existing role for armored cars already...?
Railroad Guns, have they become OP?
I hit an interesting situation where an opposing coalition built railroad guns and piled them full of AA with interceptors overhead. The stack quickly became a bulldozer plowing through everything you threw at it. It didn't help that I was Southern US and had to transport across the ocean to tackle the problem. Just curious if others are having similar problems against these. If they are the new OP unit, perhaps they could be limited to only moving in provinces with level 3 infrastructure. This would at least keep them out of backwater provinces without an existing rail system heavy enough to support them. I even hit them with level 2 rockets only to kill a couple supporting caste members but di little against the guns themselves.

Just a half ass observation that you are welcome to correct. I believe I observed (based on blood stains on the ground) rrg initiate attack when enemy had marched 1/2 way through fog view of unit. e.g.
rrg unit(e.g. LT) clear_view 1/2 fog <--- enemy coming stain
edit: So the point I was trying to make is that the enemy marched about 20 km into LT fog before the rrg started firing.Cute Pseudocode.

I had one last week where a cruiser and sub stack was bombarding a coastal city and I returned fire with land artillery. The RRG destroyed the cruiser and stopped firing, but the regular artillery continued to fire on the subs even though I could not see them.
Interesting. The RRG actually destroyed the target, then. It couldn't continue because it couldn't see the subs....or it can't destroy subs, so it gave up. But the Artillery weren't the deliverer of the kill-shot, so they didn't get the "target destroyed" message from the system. So they keep shooting at a "known" enemy position (or ghost, maybe). I don't know, it seems like it would be something along these lines.

Basically a radar outpost. Could work very well. Should be around the cost of an armored car, give or take. Good idea.Diabolical wrote:
This reminds me of my request a long time ago...that I'd love to see a new structure (or add to the Fortress) to act as an observation post to extend site range like a non-moving scout. And, whether a new structure or just added to the Fortress, higher levels could have wider viewing ranges.miech wrote:
Basically this. I sometimes use them, depending on what nation I have (in regard to terrain and resources). Their antiship capabilities have been buffed as well, but I recently experienced it still takes way too long to kill a ship with them. Still, better than nothing. What I do, is attach a single armored car along as well. The attack range is greater than their view range, so the AC can help see some targets earlier and have the RRG fire away. Very good to cover multiple provinces that have access to sea, so you can immediately do something about those pesky 'invisible' disembarkers.
Thanks. I think it would need to be a lot more expensive and maybe have building pre-requirements in a province. But, unless it can see very far, it won't make sense to build in larger provinces where the border is so far from the control point that the radar tower (or whatever you want to call it) wouldn't even reveal land that isn't already visible in an owned province.
Actually, it would make sense for a Radar Tower to have a lot of range, whereas a Lookout Tower might not see as far. But a Radar Tower would only see non-specific air units at great ranges beyond your borders whereas the Lookout Tower would actually remove the fog of war for a short distance beyond your borders. And since the Radar would have much longer range than the Lookout Tower, the effect of Fog of War would be similar to units on the map (having a ring of full visibility then a ring of semi-visible foggy area).

I gotta admit, I don't get it. If this is somehow in poor taste, then PM me to let me know what you mean. Otherwise, would you mind explaining it here?
It seemed like such a waste to destroy an entire battle station just to eliminate one man. But Charlie knew that it was the only way to ensure the absolute and total destruction of Quasi-duck, once and for all.The saying, "beating them into submission until payday", is just golden...pun intended.

Oh its really stupid. Miech suggested it to cost smth like an AC. An AC costs oil. This is a stationary thing, so it shouldn't cost oil.

All kidding aside it would be handy to have a infantry unit with longer visual range. It seems to me that would be a good job for motorized infantry.
Exactly right: in the context of the game, that's supposed to be the niche talent of the armored car brigade. It has the widest reconnaissance radius of any unit and it is also the fastest ground unit. Of course, armored cars are lousy fighting units, and are easily replaced by light tanks, motorized infantry and mechanized infantry as fast moving reconnaissance units, and they are all better fighters. Moreover, the visual recce radius of those three fast movers is good enough to serve as adequate recce units. When competing for a slot in my 24/7 research schedule, I would rather keep my light tanks current and add motorized or mechanized infantry, rather than trying to keep ACs current. There are simply too many other more useful specialty units than armored cars . . . .K.Rokossovski wrote:

I have an idea. What if we made the Armored Car's higher levels SIGNIFICANTLY stronger. Maybe we could put in a Mad Max Defensive cage with dual-mounted machine guns on a level 2 AC and an extra-heavy armor package with an RPG launcher on a level 3 AC. Give it a magnetically-driven railgun and an ultra-light, high-impact resistant, Kevlar armor on level 4. Don't forget to add lasers on the Elite level 5. Oh, and add a quantum generator engine on level 5 so it can go really really fast, like almost teleporting across the battlefield, all while creating an impervious interphased armor that oscillates on a hypersonic frequency.MontanaBB wrote:

While we're at it, let's add Aliens and towering gigantic mech walkers and super floating battleships and cute little puffy-looking blob androids that can act all innocent until they get in close and then transform into a kind of gremlin-thing that tears apart enemy weaponry and shreds defensive armor.

The actual cost can be discussed, but I was more thinking along the lines of price range. For instance, say 5k cash, 500 goods, 500 iron, 250 oil (greasing the wheels) and 250 rares. Here I assume the extended range is equal to that of an AC. If its more (say, a rocket fighters range), the price should obviously go up.

Ah it would be so good! Building a bunch of those on day 20 in territory you didn't even have on day 2, just to see what your enemy was doing back then!

I actually saw one this weekend
. Its actually one of 3 that are here in the Netherlands. Almost got me teary eyed (almost).
I remember back in College, a campus janitor had a DeLorean....I think it was the highlight of his day to drive that car around. It was pretty cool.
