Rank Requirement for 50\100 Player Maps

Apologies if this has been mentioned already. My thinking is that maybe you will get more activity for longer periods if you used a level requirement on some of these games. Not trying to suggest that you do that on all of them as open games would still be fun however my thoughts are with the level requirement it would keep players more active in game.

The 100 players maps can be very discouraging to new players as I'm sure they are probably targeted right off the bat on these maps. For example if you had to be lvl 30 to get in chances are it would end up being a very different game. You could also do ones that prohibit players over a certain level as well. So you could have "Newbie" games as well where no one over a certain level can get in. This may encourage the new players to stay more active as well.

sounds balanced. there are A LOT of mismatched games. you will usually see Level 5/10 people match up with level 30/40...

Agreed, on all points.

Killings my business, and business is good!

Absolutely! S1914 has something similar to this, except it doesn't have any sort of a maximum level cap.

Level says little of skill - just a very very small part.

That said, I agree, to ensure multiaccounts will be rare, and inactives hopefully rarer too.

Yea, I wasn't trying to suggest that this had anything to do with skill level however it can be assumed that a level 30 has just a tad bit more skill than the bran new just started lvl 1 player even if the lvl 30 one is an idiot.

Actually, I've touched on this issue before. My idea was simply to allow the creation of matches (any map) to have an optional minimum or maximum level setting. This would need not be required of all matches, only those that the match creator decides is worth setting.

However, if there are level limits, be they minimum or maximum, you will reduce the total number of players in a match simply by shear lack of interest. Sure, the matches with maximum levels set will attract more new players, but since new players are the most likely to abandon a match prematurely, these matches will still have very few players while wasting space on the servers. As for the matches with minimum levels set, those will attract even fewer players to the match, but at least it would fair somewhat better at player retention.

However, I foresee that, in either case, setting level limits on -- for example -- the 100 player World map would likely end up with the same results as non-limited ones in that there will still be only a few to a dozen players after the first couple of weeks of game-play. The 50 player Pacific map would likely fair no better. Even the 22 player "Clash of Nations" map would likely end up with fewer players fairly soon. I would think that only the smaller maps (Road to War, Blitzkrieg, and Mediterranean maps) would really benefit from this feature should it be implemented (min OR max), and I would like to see it implemented for them...but only as an optional setting.

It seemed like such a waste to destroy an entire battle station just to eliminate one man. But Charlie knew that it was the only way to ensure the absolute and total destruction of Quasi-duck, once and for all.

Good points as well. Economically though I see it as a plus to Bytro. You will never get new players to spend money if the minute they walk through the door they get bashed on the head. Contrarily, if they get into a newbie game they may still get smashed but my guess is that it wont be as bad as being surrounded by level 50 players. Especially if it happens in every single game. That person is saying "screw this!" and the last thing they will probably do is break out the credit card.

Now for those who will buy gold just for the shits and giggles of it (been guilty) they make out as well at the start. If all you have is lvl 10 and under in the game your gold is going to go much further then a normal game where 50% + is lvl 40+. The more experienced player more than likely has a friend or two in the game and knows how to mitigate a gold player. This will drive away the people willing to spend money! If they get the idea that gold actually helps them then guess what the impulsive person will do?

I don't need to explain that more money in Bytro's bank means they can handle the extra load on the servers :)
