Yep, just ended my last round, completely left Call of War

I have just left the game. Sad to say goodbye, but this is it for me :-(

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, we already taskified some of the mentioned issues for fixing (it may take some weeks due to how our release cycles work).

In general I want to remind everyone who has not noticed it yet that WebGL has different map view options (check out the settings menu in the bottom right) that may help you getting the map look a bit more like Canvas:

- you can turn off relation view mode so that all countries have their own color

- you can turn on morale map view

- you can turn on displaying province names of rural provinces

- you can turn on low graphics mode which removes a bunch of extra effects

I also want to make a comment on 3 statements I read in here a bunch of times:

1) Some said that we did not improve WebGL since 2 years and that it is still the same as back then. That is simply not true as we had many updates on the WebGL version and many were based on player feedback. You can just read through all the release notes where we had adjustments and bugfixes to graphics many times. We may just not have improved that areas that some of you wanted, but we certainly made improvements in other areas. The most recent additions where the addition of country names on the map and army labels, as well as improvements to these labels based on feedback. Even the colors in the first WebGL release 2 years ago looked quite different (and even further off from Canvas) than nowadays.

2) The Canvas bug on beta was real, if you were a frontline pioneer (beta) player playing in Canvas you can probably attest to that. The map was completely glitching out on Canvas on beta and we had to postpone our release. As we wanted to remove Canvas anyway at a later point, we just did it earlier as releasing this major canvas bug would have rendered the mode unplayable anyway. But yes the bug is not the reason why we wanted to remove Canvas (we would have done it anyway soon due to reasons I described in my first post in here), but it was the reason why we did it now already.

3) Another sentiment was that this change will completely kill the game as too many players will leave. As I said in the past we monitored usage stats and the vast majority was already using WebGL. If it interests you: I can also tell you that so far we dont see any noticeable effect on our game KPIs from the removal of Canvas.

In general some of the feedback in here also comes down to taste. While we try to fix most issues we also cannot please everyone, I hope you keep that in mind. And we also have to keep in mind that the vast majority already played happily using WebGL and had (nearly) no issues with it, so we also can't just change the current version blindly into Canvas again, compromises have to be found. In the end many players have differing opinions and we do as well, but we try to make compromises when it does not go against our vision or business interests, and did so already in the past. Luckily there are some issues that certainly most people would agree on, as well as bugs, and we will probably focus on those first.

Lastly I want to thank you again for your engagement and investment in this topic as it shows that you care about the game and its community. While I sadly can't bring you the news that Canvas is coming back (it definitely wont, sorry), I can again assure you that we will keep continuing to improve the game and that your feedback will help us in that.

You are clearly saying go to those who play Canvas.

That’s absolutely the opposite of what freezy is trying to say. He’s trying to say that you should stay and try WebGL and give feedback so that they can improve it.

Canvas lovers, if we have an opportunity to show Bytro's programmers the issues that make using GL so terrible why not take the time to do it? Just saying that we don't like it, will not fix a darn thing!

I will personally continue to post pics and the reason(s) why GL doesn't work through these pics in this post until the game operators/Bytro request I stop...my choices are stop playing, accept GL as is, or help make it more playable.

I'm not trying to show personal preferences but how the tags block your view, you can't find the dot for a troop much of the time, how sometimes when you circle troops you get false information back, etc...since I am trying to play GL for a longer period of time (what choice do I have) I am coming across other issues that I never played long enough to encounter before.

I encourage others to find issues that impede your ability to play (after you have it loaded) at the same level as with Canvas and share.

"Until there are clearly defined and enforceable rules for hand-to-hand combat, there can't be rules in global war. Kill em all!"

In the pic you can see 3 different countries subs but only one has the Red dot. You can see my 2 subs (white tag) don't have it. Next pic are some of my ships and you can see the red dot through the tags!

These pics were taken in the Med area. I scrolled up and down and could not get a red dot.

To be able to see the exact location of troops is very important.

If they want us to stay, they should bring the Canvas back

Please bring back the fog of war option and the other settings that vanished with the new graphics.

Hey guys, to be completely honest with you: There is basically a 0% chance that the old Canvas mode will return, sorry.

But there is a good chance that we will keep improving the new WebGL mode further. Your feedback will help in that regard.

By the way, the WebGL version was available for nearly 2 years now and we had already many feedback cycles with many players, and also you had the chance already to chime in before Canvas was turned off. But of course it is never too late for good feedback, so we will still listen now and will consider it when we do our next changes.

Just do me one favor: Please play with the new mode for a day or two and try to get accustomed to it. This will help to focus the feedback on real issues that are really important because it will be impossible to accomodate for all opinions that are basically just "I dont like it because it is different".

I also noticed that some players gave feedback before realizing that it was already accounted for and that they just did not find out how to do it in the new version yet. For example one feedback is that players dont like the new map colors and want it like the old version -> we already have a political view mode which colors the map like in the old version, you can activate it in the settings (bottom right menu, turn off relation mode). Another feedback was that city names are always inthe way of armies -> if you zoom in closer the city names actually vanish so there is always a way to see the armies clearly. These are just examples and thats why fuly exploring and playing with the new mode is important before jumping the gun.

In that sense, if you want to give feedback after you played it for a while, please try to be specific and show exact situations (with a screenshot) and a description what should be improved about it and why. We will collect such examples for further improvement rounds in the future.

To give you some more reasoning:

We always planned to do this at some point after introducing the WebGL mode ~2 years ago, and we kept supporting Canvas for these 2 years even though we wanted to shut it down eventually. From a code standpoint supporting Canvas is just slowing us down too much, it makes feature implementation slower, QA testing slower and increases the number of potential bugs. The old mode is also not how we ourselves envision the game in today's day and age. We rather want to focus on improving the new technology and keep Call of War state of the art.

We also run QA tests on the new version all the time and it is even playable on weaker devices. Most problems stem from either really old ones or not-up-to-date software&drivers. But if you experience problems in this regard, our support team can help you with troubleshooting.

From a usage standpoint Canvas users were a small minority nowadays, the vast majority already plays in WebGL (we tracked this and we wouldnt have done this step if this wasnt the case). I know it might feel different because long time players tend to favor canvas as they are used to it, and those players also tend to be more active in forums/chats and be vocal about their opinion.

It always hurts to take something away from some players, we rather want to focus on the vast version that the majority uses.

TL;DR: Canvas won't come back, we want to improve the new version instead with your help.

Cool! (Check this link, it will clear some things up for the following message) ---> Stuck in loading screen

FYI, i still can't play the game. You all did a great- formidable might i say, job at improving the WebGL mode, so much so that i still can't play this game almost a whole year later (such a great job that, may i add, the new graphics were the reason i got locked out of the game; see link above).

I've asked for help, i sent multiple bug reports and all of them have been treated with ignorance. In the bug reports, i specified that:

1) Yes, my computer isn't a potato.

2) Yes, i already tried running the game on other browsers.

3) Yes, the game can run on other computers. It could run on an even shittier computer than mine (a laptop made some 10 years ago).

All i got back were automated ,,Well have you tried 1 and 2 and 3? Bet you didn't! Have a marvelous day sir!,, answers. Well, if you guys even bothered to read those report, i did specify that i tried all of those things, though thanks for copypasting the same thing twice in a row so i could understand how little you cared. Eventually, an admin from the dutch server offered to help me, though to no avail.

Well, i guess i'm now locked out of this game forever unless i start using a slow and crappy laptop in order to specifically play this game. Thumbs up for the devs! I enjoyed the game while it lasted!

Edit: There is a happy ending it seems. The game is able to run when i play it on Steam, but remains inaccessible on Chrome or any other browser. I do feel bad for the folks who can't even run steam.

Flying from an ACC and landing on Eastern Island. Pic one shows that I am in the proper pie and am within 2 min of patrolling right over the airport. Pic 2 shows that when I attempt to land the plane, the plane wants to go back to the ACC and turn around and then come back and land. This was the 2nd plane that I had moved to Eastern Island. The first one went fine. I have had other planes in other areas on the map (who were in the Pie area) do the same go back to the former airport before advancing...It is intermittent.

That's because the RestoreCanvas people are so loud compared to the actual majority. The mod made a good point saying that so much feedback can be made more useful elsewhere. But since he was being a professional about everything, I'll give a more blunt opinion of my own: The guys who spend days in these forums claiming they're gonna leave should just leave already. It gives off crying infant vibes. if you love the game so much then just try and adjust, instead of claiming you're gonna leave 7 times as an attempt to get attention. Canvas clearly isn't coming back, so just leave then if WebGL is that bad. If you're not gonna leave though, stop saying you will and we can get back to making D Day look like just another day at the beach.

I mean it can be much worse. Plus it's just different graphics. Hopefully the people complaining aren't only playing Call of War because of Canvas. If that is the case they might as well pick a different game. There are far more features that are good in call of war besides graphics.

of course they don't play for it, but I guess it's to be understood bitterness if Call of War Classic and Canvas are suddenly deleted - stuff from the start in the game.

It does run WebGL. I'll just say that i tried all there was to try back then as well, i just decided to not add all of these attempts to my rant as i intended it to be more of a rant than a public bug report. https://imgur.com/a/K4HhOVE

Here i tried switching to mobile graphics just to see if i've got any luck with that, but it seems that i won't even get the option to change my graphics anymore now. The thing is that the game is playable on steam for me, but unplayable on browser.
