Rockets should follow units

I have wasted around 15 rockets(lvl 2) trying to hit moving ships...

I think they should follow individual units.

In WWII, rockets did not have the ability to change course after launch. This changed during the Cold War, but to be historically accurate, rockets can't track units.

what about adding opportunity to aim rockets in advance? right now you can aim them only at units, but thats worthless if they are moving. What if someone can calculate the place where enemy unit would be in 15 mins and shoot the rockets into that place, so enemies walk into them? currently you cannot aim rockets on the ground, i think this would be a great addition

Thats smart. You should be able to aim in advance. Historically missiles could not follow targets so surely the engineers would have done this?

Any ability to measure distances and travel times would be welcome.

Not just for rockets.

I need this for planes, more than anything.

It's really difficult to plan an efficient air grid.

ww2 rockets where lucky to hit the city they where aimed at. rocket artillery sort distance in vollies where quit effective knocking out infantry but in ww2 where not likely to be of any other value

During the period of WW2, rocket technology was limited and without peripheral interface application. Although gyroscopic techniques were utilised on air to ground bombers and torpedoes for submersible attacks.. Heat seeking or otherwise, rocket propelled aircraft came at later stages, not equipped to fourth phase microchips upon rocket peripheral.... A standard V2 navigational system was directed upon a sole stationary target only....

The best way to improve long-range ICBM style rockets is to remove them from the game.

We already have tactical surface-to-surface rockets of the Katyusha style, and that's enough.

Yes, the Germans used rockets to attack London, but that was mostly for psychological warfare.

In other words, they should mostly have the effect of lowering morale in the target city.

Long-range rockets were not powerful enough to do a noticeable amount of damage to troop formations.

Or ships.

WW2 rockets were not precision weapons.

They were lucky to hit the intended postal code within London.

There is no way a surface-to-surface missile could hit a ship.

That wasn't possible until camera-guided missiles.

Those didn't appear until roughly 30 years after the war.

Rockets should be removed from the game, like nuclear subs and ships.

The thing about rockets is that they did exist. Nuclear powered ships did not.

Ok, the Germans made jet fighters at the end of the war.

But did they have a modern fighter jet that can guide missiles by radar, hitting enemies 100km away?

Details are important.

Neither the long-range flying bomb nor the ICBM belong in the game.

It's like trying to debate puppies.

Rockets existed in WWII. Sure, they may not have been able to hit ships, so that's something that could be tweaked. But they definitely were able to hit cities, and since CoW is on a macro and not a micro level, the accuracy is correct, as they usually were able to hit the target city, if not the target building. They were able to decimate city blocks, which is why they are most effective at damaging buildings in CoW.

To be sure, rockets existed. Their main purpose was not physical damage. It was psychological warfare.

To replicate the role rockets played in the war, CoW rockets should be more expensive, less accurate, and less powerful. They should have little to no effect on military units. And it should be very difficult to destroy a strategic target like a specific factory or a bridge. However, rockets should have a disproportionate effect on city morale. It's the idea that a rocket could land on a home or a school or a hospital, instead of the tank factory, that's why people remember the rockets.

The psychological effect of the V-2 was considerable, as the V-2, travelling faster than the speed of sound, gave no warning before impact (unlike bombing planes or the V-1 Flying Bomb, which made a characteristic buzzing sound). There was no effective defence and no risk of pilot and crew casualties. An example of the impression it made is in the reaction of American pilot and future nuclear strategist and Congressional aide William Liscum Borden, who in November 1944 while returning from a nighttime mission over Holland saw a V-2 in flight on its way to strike London:[77][78] "It resembled a meteor, streaming red sparks and whizzing past us as though the aircraft were motionless. With the war all but lost, regardless of the factory output of conventional weapons, the Nazis resorted to V-weapons as a tenuous last hope to influence the war militarily (hence Antwerp as V-2 target), as an extension of their desire to "punish" their foes and most importantly to give hope to their supporters with their miracle weapon.[17] The V-2 had no effect on the outcome of the war, but it led to the ICBMs of the Cold War, which in turn were used for space exploration.[80]

The V2 program cost twice as much as the Manhattan Project yet "had no effect on the outcome of the war".

They should not because they are rockets and not drones. To launch a rocket you enter the coordinates and you press the button. Once the button is pushed it's over. There was no technology at all during WWII to adjust the trajectory of a rocket.

Even though they did not exist they are still very fun to use.

A ship that moves faster than any other ship, has an outrageous range, and can almost destroy an infantry regiment in one shot, and doesn't even cost oil.

Rockets were used to bomb major cities in World War II not any specific unit.

As far as I know there is only one level of flying bombs.

Now, in year 2021.,ground/air warheads land on coordinates that were pre installed on rocket.

Now you saying that ww2 rockets should be able to do something that rockets now cant do?
