Routing errors

A. Routing, either of troops from A to B, or from factory production to a collection point (High Command option), is really badly messed up, whether on land or sea

Players practically have to redo every route manually (=> ), spending loads of time to find the optimal route, which often is many hours shorter than the automatically chosen route (especially on large maps).

This kind of required micro-management renders players mad ...

=> hence it needs to be a priority on the fix-it-list of the devs!

B. Secondly, if routing from A to B is already so messed up, how does this affect the calculation of 'Distance to Capital' and thus the key-factor Moral?? I fear the very worst...

I am fully aware that things cannot be fixed over-night, but following questions need answers from the crew/community manager:

ad A. Is routing be worked on? Is there a time table/outlook for the fix?

ad B. Does the messed up routing affect calculation of 'Distance to Capital' at this instance?

Due to this thread, as with the similar reports coming in, I'll be posting a Sticky to list all the extremely weird routing errors.

But to answer your questions the best I can at the moment,

A. I do know some routing errors that have been corrected (Crossing the international timeline used to require a 4 day detour from Japan down to the pacific islands before being able to come back up) But some errors do seem to persist, hence the stick thread I will be posting shortly.

I unfortunately haven't heard of an overall update to the pathfinding issue, but I will ask.

B. I haven't noticed a morale issue due to routing errors, just looking at morale maps of my games, the morale levels are consistent, roughly, with straight line distance from the capital.

Thank you for the preliminary answers. I am very curious about the follow up too. Keep us posted!

Yes.

Take a look at this messed up routing.

It concerns routes from 2 cities in the same corner of the empire to the capital, which likely (but not sure, because the question still goes unanswered) also influences morale through 'distance-to-capital' (which is expressed in travel TIME).

Obviously this is messed up. There is no reason for the differences in routes, since both start and end in the picture at same places.

Further, units WILL NOT travel through the mountains, since this halves the speed. They will travel 1 province south of the mountains, through hills and plains.

This routing mess needs to be addressed!

2 major questions remain open:

1. How is distance-to-capital defined?? (i.e.: is it the time it takes per the route as depicted by the HC gathering point routes OR the actual route the units would travel? This is important, as it defines where to build roads to shorten travel time)

2. Is the messed-up routing being addressed sometime soon? Is it at all on the agenda?
