Sharing Aircraft Carriers

You can share airfields, infrastructure and fortifications with allies and coalition members... how come I cannot share my aircraft carrier to allow allied aircraft to use?

it would seem that since carriers are units, and units arent normally controlled by other nations. What if allied planes are on the carrier and he goes inactive, how will u place ur own planes?

Or what would happen if one player suddenly decided to betray the other? Would the plane just drop into the water?

Provinces are not controlled by other nations either. Just you.

Easy solution: Planes turns into a ship convoy, same as if you were travelling in the water. The unit control would still be controlled by the AirCarrier's player but the planes could use it as a staging ground.

Yes. Just as if you had a plane in an "allied" airfield and they betrayed you, it turns into a convoy.

The difference between provinces with airfields and carriers is that provinces don't have a space limit. Carriers do.

I don't see the issue here?

Example: I got one empty carrier that can bounce two interceptors over to connect an island airfield.

The issue would be this: Say that my ally lands two interceptors on my carrier, which has a limit of two planes. They agree to move them off, but before they can, they go inactive. Now, that carrier is useless to me, since I can't put any planes on it.

Your ally could put lots of planes on your Aircraft carriers to the extent where you run out of room and can't place your own planes.
That's where communication and teamwork would come in to play. That really isn't a technical issue.

Then kick em out of your coalition or backstab them or something.

In real life allied nations could land on the carriers of their allies. If you have an ally that goes inactive then you diplomatic relation automatically changes into Right Of Way so I don't see a problem there.

They would fly to another allied carrier or airbase within range. If there isn't any in range then it would return to it's former base and turn into a convoy units I guess as is currently the case on land.

For me i makes sense to land on the carrier of an allied nation. It would give the possibility to actually build an airbridge between continents on the World at War map and would the often underused navy an airforce more attractive to use.

Exactly. Historical and practical relevancy. Again I hardly know the first thing on coding this in but I feel like this would be relatively easy to update compared to all the other updates.

It would add another level of teamwork and tactical gameplay.

teamwork
This is what I think the issue is. Will the saltier 10% of teammates be irritating with the ability to clog up an allies carriers. And what about inactive players that log in once a day?

I haven't ran into players like this.. you should probably do a better job of picking teammates first of all.

But if this issue persisted then perhaps adding an option remove them to convoy ships.

yes tribunate is correct, that is how things should work. letting them move out the carrier of making them move out.

I guess we would need to fix the carrier bug before we attempted to try this out.

The carrier bug has been there since carriers existed, no reason to assume it will get solved any time soon.

And I agree with whowh, clogging up carriers would be a serious issue. Kicking planes of your carriers into convoys would be the minimum solution needed.

And I suspect that coding this wouldn't be anything easy anyway... for an edge feature (cause yeah, I think that's what it is - build your own carriers ffs) it isn't worth the effort. Then again, Bytro often invests in stuff that I consider edge features, so who am I to know? They invested tons in a graphic interface which is just plain ugly; I still fear the day that they will stop supporting the old interface and I will have to say goodbye to the game... whenever I have to login on mobile to do something urgent I'm just SHOCKED at how bad it looks. And all of that for moving clouds and the hubris of spelling your nation name in big letters across your empire like HOI... bleh.

I'm scared this game will just become Hoi4.
