Sneaky Submarines

Greetings,

I believe there is a situation that warrants submarine anonymity during attacks.

Unescorted maritime convoys.

There was a huge tonnage of shipping that just disappeared during WW2, that was only presumed to be due to German u-boat attacks. Most of it probably was.

I think there should be an additional "fire control" option for subs regarding a stealth attack mode, that offers a chance to not be discovered during an attack. When an attack is initiated, the sub would appear with an "unknown" flag marker.

I think that the sub being inside the range of destroyers, cruisers and naval bombers (or if present in a convoy stack) would remove that chance completely.

Since there is always a flag associated with units, they could simply create an "unknown" flag type to represent the subs during the attacks if not identified.

If the sub is not successfully identified, then either there would be no news story, or a story type developed regarding missing ships or something of the like.

The big bonus is that there is no war triggered from an unidentified attack.

Lastly, an element could be added that allowes an "online" person to physically look, and see the real flag, only while the actual combat is occuring. A war would not be auto triggered, but the victim could still know who it was......

What do you think?

An interesting idea, but it would represent a fundamental change in the game. All attacks, intentional or accidental, on another player's units results in an immediate state of war between the parent countries of the units involved. No anonymity of attackers.
