So Much Metal, And Not A Drop Of Oil! (HWW Australia)

In a game as Australia in HWW, I start with 8 cities. You would think that would be enough to ensure adequate production of all resources, but NO!

I have an outrageously enormous surplus of metal, but hardly enough oil! Right now I am producing over TWICE as much metal than oil! What kind of resource balancing is this?

Bytro said that they "fixed the Oil shortages" in their recent update. Well I say "B.S.!" Look at these figures:

(Note that it is day 1 and all cities are at 70 morale)

Urban Resource Spread

Food: 3 cities (1 double, 2 singles)

Metal: 3 cities (ALL DOUBLES)

Oil: 2 cities (1 double, 1 single :wallbash :wallbash

Current Resource Stock:

Food: 3.4K

Metal: 9.2K (!!)

Oil: 500

Current Resource Generation:

Food: 655/hr, 15905/day

Metal: 920/hr, 22647/day

Oil: 425/hr, 11423/day

That is a TON of metal! And worse yet, I can't trade it for oil! The lowest available oil offer in the market right now is 15 money per oil, and the highest metal sell offer right now is only 2 money per oil!

So basically, I'm left with a gigantic stash of metal that I don't seem to have any need or use for, and hardly a drop of oil left. Naturally, I thought of building and leveling up the industrial complex in my one oil producing double production city, but guess what that requires, OIL!!! :cursing:

As Donald Trump might say, I have a "YUGE!" amount of metal.

Why on Earth would a country start with THREE double production cities of one resource and only one for each of the other two? That makes ZERO SENSE!!! C'mon Bytro! It doesn't take that high of an IQ to figure out how to properly balance the three resources. Give two resources two double production cities each, and the resource that only has one double production cities should get more single production cities to make up for it.

Phillip Bosley's proposed redesign of Australia's urban resource production:

Food: 3 total cities (2 double production cities, 1 single production city)

Metal: 2 total cities (2 double production cities)

Oil: 3 total cities (1 double production city, 2 single production cities)

With 100 morale and base production in all cities, we get:

Food: 2(6000) + 1(3000) = 12000 + 3000 = 15000/day

Metal: 2(6000) = 12000/day

Oil: 1(6000) + 2(3000) = 6000 + 6000 = 12000/day

MUCH BETTER!!! Note that these numbers are for base production value (without industry) and building the industry wouldn't be a hassle because guess what? You now have enough oil!

Bird brains...

God, I just wonder what the resource spread is like for major powers like the Soviet Union and Germany...

And don't forget that upgrading Industry demands an unequal amount of Oil.

Hence, upgrading Oil Industry in cities pays off less than upgrading Metal, increasing the disparity.

Not even mentioning That provincial Industry demands Food and Oil and no Metal at all.

Ofc it is alright and even somewhat realistic to have an Oil problem...

But what in Jeeves name is the purpose of that huge Metal surplus?

Going MENTAL over all that METAL!

All I can do with that Metal is sell to the AI buyers (a little bit) at 1.1 and (most) at 1.0, immediately after reset out of fear someone else will sell and I will be stuck with that rusty scrap heap.

Naturally, by that time, I can only buy Oil from AI too, which costs 30.0.

So, I am exchanging:

33 (30+10% commission) Metal for 0,9 (1-10% commission) Oil...

Which equals 330 Metal for 9 Oil !!!!!

So emersive...

So enticing...

So much more intelligent gameplay...

BULL CRAP!

It is bad design!

And if it is 'design' it is only meant for players to buy the missing resource with gold.

@Bytro Labs

As if that is working? Are your Blue Whales really that stupid?

Or are they also just quitting, like Belugas like me?

Not a penny from me to Bytro in 2025 and letting my HC run out, unless we get some real improvements instead of DOWNGRADES!

Fix the Resources

Fix the LAG

Fix the Rivers

Yes, they do indeed.

There are people who - based on their own research on the internet - are of the opinion the world is flat.

They are entitled to their opnion, even when it is ridiculous.

I am entitled to my opinion, which is based in science ánd observations, about their ridiculous opinion :saint:

I have an opinion on the Resources Ruined Downgrade too.

Ofc, I always thought this was a strategy game that was meant to be the best; not the simplest.

What made COW unique was the combi of Chess, Go, A&A and WAW and you actually had to think things through.

For 'simple' there are plenty of choices already.

Besides that, you must have noticed :

- the Metal issue (...or non-issue) and the Oil constraints since the downgrade.

- that due to the limited rss combinations (F+M/F+O/M+O), 90% of unites are now simply a bad or very bad choice.

- strategy now just means 'hunt oil', instead of smart play, knowing your units, terrain, etc and use that tactically in a wider strategy.

If it is an improvement in someone's opinion, COW simply is not and was never a game for them.

What the downgrade will do, is drive away the real strategy players.

What it will not do, is attract and bind new players, bc the game is still too complicated and slow to compete with the flashy&fast Chinese money traps.

and I will now introduce you to the S1914 "Dominion Mesopotamia" map. Happy oil hunting guys.

I suggest Bytro to IMMEDIATELY WITHDRAW FROM STILLFRONT'S SPHERE OF INFLUENCE as I have realized the profit driven "updates" came just before Stillfront's logo got added.
Although the following might not be completely true, but I can see many signs of it. I urge Bytro to wake up and see for itself what it has done and bring back the good old days(including removing war bonds). The veteran community will give you more support that way.
You have made every post in this forum before 10/29 useless

You can b**** and moan about it, or you can take it as a challenge.

What can you build with metal? Battleships. Artillery. Rocket artillery. Foot infantry. Use your precious oil for units that have no oil free alternative. For example, interceptors. The rest of your army can be oil free. It's not that hard.

And do invest in oil industry in your core cities, with the limited oil you have right now. Your situation will improve over time. What you can't do is stubbornly build oil based units now. That would permanently limit your power. Take advantage of your strengths and learn to be flexible.

Maybe Bytro should randomly create major updates like this to teach players to adapt to change

Oh ... right....and that 9 out of 10 unit choices are now obsolete does not matter at all?

Or that the strategy element is out the window? I now roll over my enemies like a steamroller, bc the game has been dumbified so much.

Or that WBs help me and other 'not so bad players' 10x more than those who complained about gold and never developed a strategy against it?

When bad stuff happens, you have to speak up ... instead of swallowing another mouthfull.

When you don't, you are an accomplice.

This pertains not only to this game.

Happy new year!

I know you will have one, bc you just follow and swallow.

So far, I can produce about 1,5~2k less metal than Food or Oil in my games.

That means I don't have to build any Industry on Metal for a long time, except when starting unlucky, but that means my surplus comes a little later and will only be bigger later on.

You keep spouting this line. It's utter nonsense.

Most units in CoW are not useful to most players. That's always been true. Most players should never build a rocket, or a paratrooper, or a carrier, or a heavy tank. These are advanced units to be used as counters in specific game situations. Not useless, just... not recommended to anyone who needs help deciding what to build.

The resource changes have not affected this situation at all. Upgraded starting infantry is still the best early game unit. AC are still essential scouts. Rocket artillery and cruisers are still the most practical bombardment units, for most doctrines except Pan Asian.

What has made a difference is WB healing, which made early bomber use practical at the expense of all bombardment units that take hours - or days - to get into position.

Finally, resources have always been unbalanced. HWW had oil shortages. Normal maps had food and goods shortages. Metal and oil were going for 1 coin by day 12. We just have a slight redistribution of surpluses and deficits. The basic idea remains the same. Manage your economy. Adjust your build to the situation. Don't expect anything from the market. No difference.

Complain about WB and healing and sabotage spies. Those have made a real difference to game play, especially in competitive AvA games. Complaining that you want to complain about goods instead of oil deficits is just... a totally uninteresting take.

I already strongly complained about the issues you see as valid complaints.

Now again choices have been limited to fewer, alternatives are out the window, the market has become even less interesting with only 2 rss (as Metal does not matter) et cetera andsoforth.

The Resources Ruined downgrade is just ANOTHER one in a long line of downgrades since the advent of v1.5.

It all boils down to dumbification at the expense of the various strategy elements and 'realism'.

And thát is the point!

The market has never been interesting, and if you have stopped building RA or cruisers or any other go-to units, then you just don't know how to play CoW and likely never did.
