SP Anti-Tank

Is it a possibility to see Self Propelled Anti-Tank guns, or tank destroyers. For the Germans it would the Marder series of tank destoyers, then Hetzer, stug III and Iv, and finally the jagdtiger or panther. Americans would have the M10, M18,etc. Brits had good Tank Destoyers too, achilles and archer. Russians had good ones as well, su-85, su-100 and the ISU series

This was talked about in the SPA/SPAA thread but fell out of circulation so it's good you've brought it up. Lots, me included want to see this but it would be a good idea if you listed the speed, hit points damage etc to help the mods.

British=best. Duh!

Geez, talked about. Many times in fact! The unit names are already in game, just assigned to the wrong units.

I totally agree with you TheZees, i was very sad so see the SU-76, SU-122 and SU-152 as an spg. It hurts my soul badly. Anyway I think the tank destroyers should have greater Defence power of the Mediums but less attack, and should have about the same mobility.

Id think the staff is working on tank destroyers or will get around to it.

I would like to see these. Later in the game when attack becomes more important the existing anti-tank guns become somewhat pointless aside from for defence, a more mobile, armoured anti-tank gun would fill an important role and make tank battles more interesting.

I really want SP Anti-Tanks.

They should have high speed, high attack values and low defend values. I thought the SPA was going to be the SP anti-tank, but it is complete bull against tanks.

The past is a foreign country.

I cannot wait for this to be added, especially since heavy tanks are so popular :D

Well many Tank destroyers, if not he majority of them started off the chassis of a medium tank, so comparable speed and maybe a lower defense is expected. The guns where always there advantage, and such attack against tanks should be between heavy tanks and medium tanks. Against infantry tank destroyers preform horribly, most were never even equipped with an MG.

Where did you get this info? Some of the best German ones were made from light tanks and tractors. The Brits used cruiser tanks and the Americans had a truck for one(as did the Germans. Half track Maultiers too).

the entire SU series was based on t-34's,hetzer was based on the MEDIUM panzer 38(t) the Stug Iv series on Panzer IV's, Stug II's on Panxer III's,and M10 , M18, and M36 were developed from the m4a2 hull, and although yes, some ( not the best) were made from light tanks and were mounted on tractors or trucks they shouldn't compromise the majority of a possible tank destroyer research line. Maybe the first maybe even second level and that's it.

The 38 was a Czech light and StuG's are SPG's not TD.

well almost TheZee's since the only tank in the SU series that was based on the T-34 was the SU-85 , and the SU-150 and SU-122 variations of the SU-85. The other SU's were based on their own hulls. And the ISU series was based on the IS series of heavy tanks.

as for "stugs", and I quote " Identical in role and concept to the highly successful StuG III assault gun variant of the Panzer III, both StuG models were given an exclusively tank destroyer role in German formations and tactical planning in the last two years of the war, greatly augmenting the capability of the dwindling tank force available to the German army on the Eastern and Western fronts."

Now to BBB, the 38(t) was czech tank but when the Germans annexed czechoslovakia they took the 38(t)'s and even ordered more since they were quite good at that time. but they became quite poor as tanks developed and so the hetzer was made for the 38's hull. Which the German's used. Also the Stug series was a infantry support gun, taking out bunkers and such) at first but later devloped to a AT when they saw it was quite effective vs tanks.

For the StuG, that was a role, not what it was designed for. I can use a butter knife as a steak knife, doesn't make it a steak knife.

38 (t) is a German light tank. The tankwas developed for the Czechoslovakian Army. However, it was mostly produced for the Panzerwaffe from 1939 through 1942, with a total of 1,411 vehicles manufactured. Visually, it's not that different than its predecessor, thePz.Kpfw(this is from Wiki as well).

Okay that confirmed what I said, and you analogy is off a bit since the tank was designed to support infantry against bunkers and light vehicles, same with the PZ.4 but in the eastern front the 75MM cannon was found to be effective vs tanks and so the PZ.4 and stug3 took over AT operations from the PZ.3

I disagree.Originally used as an assault gun, ut ended up more like a TD.

Doesn't matter. If I make a gravestone then write "tabletop" on it, is it a table top? No.

R.I.P Tabletop

No, but if you use it as a tabletop, it is a tabletop.

P.S. Is the StuG in the SPG category?
