Well, in CoW it’s certainly not this case. They’re updating and changing the game every month and even the game designer @freezy constantly checks the forums and replies to thread. The forums were dead in the past year but the forum community is now much more reviving. I don’t know what has happened to S1914 though, maybe CoW has a better playerbase.
State of Call of War
I don't know if anyone here plays their other games but Conflict of Nations and Supremacy 1914 (their other games) are in an abysmal state right now, filled with bugs and hardly any updates, plus the forums are closing down.
Is this is an indication of the future of Call of War??

I think S1914 is finally dying... same thing that happened with new world empire is happening to them. Can’t attract new players, game is confusing, and can’t keep up with modern gaming culture. WW2 games would naturally attract larger player base than WW1 game, and TBH, when I did try out S1914 for a couple weeks, there was one word for it: BORING.
There are only like 10 units in the game, and I think 2 naval and 2 air units. And the maps are very big, one time I went on their forum and there was thread about quickest win... all the people said 35-45 days. Definitely not attractive to modern gamers.
(Just to make sure, I’m not saying that is a good thing that S19114 could be dying)
I hope that CoW learns from S1914’s mistakes by keeping this game exciting, updated and attractive to the modern gaming community.
yes totally agree

Plus it’s more of a slow numbers game rather than a strategy game. The winner is mostly the person with more stuff, rather than the better player. Maybe the game is so slow to represent the slow and painful drag that was the First World War, but it sure isn’t fun. The game is just slow and includes much less strategy. At least I will no longer see those criminal Instagram ads Supremacy rolls out.
The player base of both CoN and S1914 are bigger nowadays than the playerbase of CoW. Still CoW has the larger and more active forums. Conclusion: Don't judge the game's playerbase or activity based on the forums.
The times of forums is also nearing its end in general, it is not a sexy thing in the current age anymore and gets replaced more and more with other channels, such as Discord, which is also the thinking in CoN I guess.
The Discords of all of our games are very active and the amount of players and the activity there is much higher than in our forums.
And no, no one of them is failing like NWE did, they are all still growing.
So don't worry, CoW's playerbase is still very big and active and there is no end in sight. We keep actively developing the game, and also the other mentioned games.
even if use discord a lot i have to say that forum is far more comfortable than cow discord due how much trolls & "bad suggestion" are there.freezy wrote:

At least for me the cow forum its the place where i can find players who really know what they are doing, the frecuency of "bad suggestions" its lower so i choose to come here to discuss about the game balance and stuff like that
I said it in another thread but would like to repeat myself here: Discord is a terrible substitute for forums and it's a shame to see forums closing down like is happening everywhere. I understand that Discord is where the players are, but it comes at a cost. No long form analysis, no threaded conversations, just children and trolls talking over each other constantly.
/grumpy old man
Personally I also like the cleanliness and order of our Forums here. It is true that on Discord we see more trolls than here, but here we also see some trolls and spam, so its not Eden yet
Discord actually has threaded conversations and now even has a forum feature, which I would like to see in our discords as well. There is still some improvement to do.
I’m curious... why did NWE fail?freezy wrote:

the trolls are in English chat too.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... if you ignore the trolls, they’ll give up and go somewhere else to get attention.Imperialist San arta wrote:

thats why the cow discord its full of trolls, a lot of player feed them with attention, and we cant say to anyone: dont feed the troll.Brando Dilla wrote:

A lot of them are teenagers who dont know how to properly behave.
But we cant be mean to them just because teenagers are teenagers
Just enjoy the trolls, they are free jokers and come up with their circus every now and then.
I’ve said before, I’m fine with people joking around and having fun, this is a GAME. But I don’t like it when the jokes/trolling targets certain people in particular, or when it is preventing me from having a good time playing.

Well it did not generate enough revenue, getting more users produced more costs than income, so marketing could not break even and had to be stopped. Thus the game slowly died and was shut down when the community was too small to justify the costs of maintaining the servers.Baracuda12 wrote:

As to why it failed in terms of the game itself? We can only speculate as there is no 100% clear answer. One prominent theory is that it had too little PvP compared to our other games and offered too many alternative victory conditions (usually PvP generates more revenue in our games than PvE). Or that the core loop was too complicated and content was bloated with redundant stuff, thus making it harder to onboard new players. Or the setting being too niche. Could also be several factors at the same time.
A shame. From the look of it it seemed to be a game taking place in Renaissance Europe and America? Seemed like a good concept.freezy wrote:
