Submarines and naval bombers

I do not follow why the game allows naval bombers to take damage from submarines. This game is supposed to mimic WW2 tactics. If a submarine was found by aircraft, they dived. Yes, the subs had AA machine guns, but that was a mode of last hope when being strafed after being caught off guard. The submarine immediately dived if it could. A submerged submarine cannot conceivably damage aircraft. Aircraft can drop torpedoes and depth charges on submerged submarine.

Work out some device in your programming where the submarine has say, a 20% chance of escaping with no damage and is no longer visible to the naval bomber. That strikes me as far more realistic.

Another choice is to give the submarines a 60% chance of escaping unless the naval bomber is working in concert with a destroyer. Then there is only a 5% chance of escaping undetected.

It turns out that many players dont really like random factors that much. Adding 2 new chances, one even as high as 60%, would probably outrage a lot of players. I can already see the reports coming in: "Why did my unit deal 0 damage?"

We already have some random factors in combat, which already reflect an average for hits and misses. In the end all is an approximation to make it playable, and not a realistic simulation.

1) random chances are the worst thing in 1.0. They don’t have to come to 1.5

2) this is GAME. And all unit types must be balanced with each other. If naval-bombers couldn’t counter the subs - it would makes subs imbalance. No, thanks.
