Suggestion for Upgrades

While I think the upgrade feature makes the game more realistic, the cost is prohibitive to say the least. I'm sure others have suggested reducing the cost already. Another approaches might be...

  1. Have combat experience result in an upgrade. For example, if a level 2 infantry unit fights repeatedly over time move the unit up to a level 3.
  2. Have an upgrade include a 10% boost to unit health. It appears that an upgrade to a damaged unit costs the same as it does to a fully combat effective unit. It would be more of an incentive to spend on the upgrade it it resulted in a unit health boost at the same time.

There is nothing wrong with those suggestions, but I will point out that the cost of upgrading becomes much more reasonable the greater the difference between current and future level.

I definitely wouldn't recommend upgrading from Lv1 to Lv2, but it's super worthwhile to upgrade from 1 to 6, e.g.

I fully disagree with all three proposals. Upgrade costs are perfectly fine the way they're now. If it was cheaper, easier or more beneficial to upgrade,

a) it would no longer be a difficult and thus interesting decision whether to upgrade which units when.

b) it would be less realistic, because in reality it's very difficult (in many cases even close to impossible) to modernize equipment / weapons / vehicles.

c) it would bring us back to players focussing research on very few units - with all the bad consequences.

Many folks in this forum just want to get everything with a few clicks. They don't want waiting times, trade-offs and resource calculation. But that's not how the world works and it's not how a strategy game works. Be patient and do your homework. Then you get what you want (and you'll see it then is more satisfying to get what you wanted if it wasn't super-easily achieved).
