If one ever played big maps he would definitely know what it means to have enormous morale loss due to expansion. even if you have a great military force, it becomes difficult to keep provinces after capturing as they keep revolting. Also, AIs and inactive players start to declare trade embargos and then wars.
So here is my suggestion:
What about making it able to free a province?
First of all only provinces which are someone's core provinces should be able to be freed.
When a province is freed it is returned to player/AI of which's core province it is.
Freeing a province increases relation with AIs generally and especially with the one whose core province has been freed.
It would be good if it was able to free a province of the country that no longer exists due to occupation.
Additional suggestion:
in order to make AIs more useful, it would be better if they helped friendly players against their enemies.
In conclusion, all this will solve both expansion and AI relation problems, additionally, the game will become more realistic as creating marionette governments on occupied lands was a common thing in the 20th cetury.
So what do you think about all this?

I'm not as much struggeling with this. I try to take capitals just before day change that helps a lot. Keeping your popularity high with AI is also a great help. Usually when I have an AI on my border, I attack it before it can declare war on me. That's also a great help.
Yes, that's the usual strategy. But once I won the 1939 Historic world war with Solo victory it did not help. Every single country declared a trade embargo and many declared war too. Province morale did not grow but fell after capturing it. If I had not had enough units to put 1 max LVL land unit on every newly captured province until I managed to build max level propaganda offices everywhere (also building time is decreased due to low morale and I have to build it in every province of Spain) I would not be able to win at all.

it makes sense, if i want to ally with an AI or something, however i assume it's not been added due to early game Exploits by multis where a person could never defeat the big economic advantage of having multiple cores
