Suggestion on incentivizing activity

So an idea I had recently on incentivizing activity is that there can be some maps where there is a gold cost to get in, and that gold cost isn't refunded until you win/lose. You can also add a gold prize in these games for simply staying active until you win/lose to not only punish people for becoming inactive but rewarding them for being active. This doesn't have to be on all maps, as maybe some people wouldn't have the initial funds, or they know they're prone to not finishing games, but I think it'd be better, as the people who are more likely to want games with active players will be more attracted to these maps, which will make it more likely that the map will have active players.

There are also some times when someone can be defeated, but maybe have random land in some random island, so there might be exclusions maybe if the player has something like less than 10 units or 3 cities, or all their cities are located in hard to get areas where they'll still recuperate their initial "collateral". Although even if this last part isn't possible to implement, I'd rather have a good system instead of a perfect system.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Well let’s see… the game already rewards you for being active with gold at the end of a game. I do like this idea of having to spend gold and gain it back at the end. Reminds me of how Aldi’s forces you to spend a quarter to get a shopping cart but lets you take it back once you return it. I see people go inactive in those player maps that cost 5k gold quite often even though they had a good chance of winning though so I’m not sure if this will work. Maybe it’s different.

I don’t know how you would get this second idea to work though. Like if an enemy army can’t reach you in a certain amount of time? Are provinces that don’t count pre-selected? You’d need a system for this to work, as I’m not sure what would and wouldn’t.

It doesn't reward you if you die before the end of the game. Also you could play around with the amount of gold required to get in to see what a good range is for still getting people in the game while also making them not want to go inactive.

Yes but if you die you die, even if you are active. It wouldn’t change much. Unless the gold is copious in number people are still going to go inactive anyway.
