I think that there should be a higher reliance on trade. At least so that trade embargo at least causes some issues to players. The solution to this would to not make every country have lots of every resources but make them have only the resources that they actually have, forcing them to trade with other countries. For example, lets say UK has plenty of normal resources but barely any iron. Then they would have to trade with a nation that has lots of iron such as Sweden. Lets say then, Sweden puts a trade embargo against UK and their economy is struggling and it gives Sweden and their allies a strategical advantage. Also I would like to see there be trade ships so that other countries could try to stop trade from a certain country, damaging its economy. This is all just to make the game more realistic and force players to use trade/trade embargo more to gain advantages.

I think this is a great idea that would add a lot of realism. However, for it to work so experienced gamers dont use this as a hack, make each country's resource pool different in every game. For example, such as the one you used, if everyone knows the UK is lacking in Steel resources, they can automatically take the UK from the board by a simple embargo.
If you make the starting resources random for each country, this keeps players honest, and the game stays somewhat fair and balanced. Just my opinion, but overall I like the concept you came up with.

The random resource idea is good, but there are a few problems with it. Such as the fact that that would not make it historically accurate, also targeting countries for their resources has been used over history. The random resources also aren't reliable enough to be used and will make the game luck based. Also when you said that one embargo could defeat a country, there are many countries with that resource, it will just be much harder to get that particular one. But trade should just have a larger influence in the game overall.

yes, but lots of things in the game are unrealistic, for example in the UK there is oil in the North Sea and Lancashire, but according to the clash of nations map there is oil in Manchester

trade embargos only apply to the market, not direct player-to-player trades.
since 90% of the players are on their first game,
they are very unlikely to understand or participate in trades.

Thats what im saying. There needs to be more realistic resources so that trade and trade embargos are actually relied on.

Yeah that is true. But the thing is that there should be a sort of tutorial when you start the game showing about how to make trades and the importance of trades.

I find it fascinating that this post has received so much more traction than my original post on my suggestions of the implementing a new trade mechanic.

I like the concept, but maybe put it in a new map. Starting the map requires level 100 so no noobs will be harmed.
Give no oil to Core-Cities of a country like UK for example. Maybe just one Core-Region with oil. That would be a huge factor already. And so on ...
