Troop Convoys Should Never Stop!

So, this seems like a "bug" to me (re: bad design, to clarify for Butter Ball Bill below). When under attack, in the game (not real life), troop convoys have no incentive to stick around and fight. (Actually, that's kind of like the real world too.) They can't defend themselves, really, so they should keep heading to their destination.

What's the logic here? "OMG, we're under attack, ALL STOP!" Are they too busy "maneuvering" to get to their destination? Might be an argument IRL (but easily refuted). No, given the situation and mechanics, they'd go full speed ahead to get away ASAP -- if the convoys have a destination, they should always be heading toward it - behaving more like airplanes than trucks.

Thoughts?

They shouldn't stop but it isn't a bug. It was made to be like that.

A bad design/feature is a "bug" to this developer :)

Well, that means you are using the word incorrectly but whatever works for you.

Oh my... better fix that :rolls eyes:

I can agree with the convoys stopping when attacked. The convoy is not escorted by ships capable of defending them. Think of it as landing boats, they have no way to defend themselves. If battleship happened to attack them, it would be quite difficult for it to maneuver its way when it is in its way. I found it annoying as well when my invasions were stopped because of a few ships destroying my armies at sea. If you want to make a land invasion have your navy ready to escort them to their destination.

I can kind of see that, but there's not different types of convoys, say, one for crossing the atlantic and another for the english channel. Nor is there differentiation between armed and unarmed convoys either. In either case, the convoy isn't going to stop outright, they'll try to get away if they're out matched (which is most of the time, right?)

I didn't mention different types of convoys or armed/unarmed types of convoys. I used the landing boat reference to give an idea of how the convoys are in this game. They cant fight back. Also, from what I have seen so far the convoys make a complete halt when attacked. The odds of being able to escape an attacking ship is very slim, so I can see why the developers made it so it stops.

Yes, I understand how you meant. I was just saying that it doesn't make sense to have ONE type of convoy for different purposes and have them behave the same way.

That is, I think convoys are broken for more reasons than one, now. :)

I wrote my own thread on the ideas of convoy technology. Id love to hear your input on the idea. :)
Link to the thread? And also I suggest that instead of having the convoy go at a full stop, it should have a reduction in speed. The troops still get the same morale penalty when being attacked, but they should also be able to do a small amount of damage to the attacking ships. Many convoy ships back then were armed with machineguns, small artillery cannons, etc. in order to assist troops when doing beach landings.

There is already another thread for this issue closing it.
