Hi, the rationale is: It just was never implemented. Like a lot of other missing stuff that could have been done.
Implementing the timer for more things is on the potential feature list.
@freezy: We have tool-tip displays of combat tickers for naval units (both bombarding and melee combat), rockets in flight, artillery (bombarding and melee), and all other ground units engaged in melee combat. This is a great feature, and very helpful when a player is making a variety of decisions in a hurry.
That said, is there some rationale why this feature does not apply to aircraft units on patrol? Knowing when the 15-minute patrol ticker expires for aircraft units can be important for a variety of reasons, and currently the only way to get that data is to click on the patrolling aircraft unit icon ---- which sometimes incidentally moves the unit and resets its patrol ticker . . . .

Thanks for the response. Good to know it's on the to-do list.
Yes, I'm frequently checking combat tickers. it saves a lot of time.
I've noted that aircraft always rotate clockwise and when they get just past 6 o'clock they suddenly speed up on their attack run and restart the 15 minute ticker at the 12 o'clock position.
