Meh. The RG is kind of made to suck in this game.
Mess with the Bill, you get the scorn!
While I can see how the game treats all railguns as similar to the German 80cm Dora cannons , most railguns were not of such caliber. Dora itself was only 1 gun or two counting extra barrels.
However most railguns were much smaller and also more mobile than Dora. Also most were usually just naval cannons of 10-16inch range mounted on rail carriages.
Here are where my criticisms are. The firepower railguns have against ships in this game (.3) is not reflective of the fact much of the Coast Defence Artillery of WWII was railguns. They were parked all along the coastlines of America, England and the Atlantic wall , on spurs built off mainlines. Many times they were "walled in" creating heavy seacoast forts.
Railguns need much more firepower than (.3) to reflect how deadly they were against ships. So deadly in WWII, ships generally did not venture into fields of fire of such guns. Yes , most did not shoot 120KM , but neither did Dora. Railguns need much more firepower against ships, if they are in coastal provinces. I suggest 5-10 fp against ships.
And perhaps something could be done , with a railgun when placed in a coastal fortification, giving it vaster increased firepower against ships, and also a better inherent defense. This would reflect heavy emplacements such as Cape Gris nez, or the Dover forts, or the Forts of New York or San Francisco Bay..
Second , railguns are too slow compared to their actual WWII brethren in field use. Again , yes Dora took a week to assemble, but most railguns travelled ready to fire, and the only time needed was to find a level track pointing in somewhat the right direction and placing outriggers, which only took a few hours at most. But their speed when moving along rails was far faster than in this game , and even reflecting their normal set up times , they would still be able to move and fire far faster than they do in game. I suggest a 30-40kmh speed , to reflect their real life mobility.
Meh. The RG is kind of made to suck in this game.
Personally, I only use the railgun for defense. You can start bombing the enemy further out when they come at you.I don't know why anybody would use it attacking. I mean, I don't know about others, but I go too fast for the railgun to have any use. I don't even use artillery.
I am sorry Chris, I guess you really like the railgun. Some of us wanted special use for commandos, others wanted paras, and others wanted to improve other units. It's one of the bad things about this game. Some units were made to never be used. That sucks. They should give those units (commandos, railguns, etc.) more power or other advantages over their normal counterparts (commandos vs infantry, railguns vs artillery) to make them more playable.
I truly am sorry. Maybe someday we will be heard. Don't lose hope.
Lose hope! Lose hope! Lose hope! Lose hope! Lose hope! Lose hope!Lose hope! Lose hope!
I'll stick with my original comments. They don't really need to do anything to railgun other than increasing its firepower against ships and perhaps its speed to reflect real WWII effects. No major change in parameters and none in game mechanics or AI programming, IMO.
As to having super "commandos". I only think the "commando" name in this game is misleading. They could be called Mountain troops or pioneers or engineers and no one would have complained. The uses I think you expect of commandos , is actually what spies do in this game anyway. That is where your small special forces are in the game.
Exactly. They're using commandos as if they were some kind of tough, battle-hardened veterans who were vetter than normal infantry but carry out the same tasks. THAT is NOT what commandos did. Hell, or you change what commandos do in the game, or you change their name. BTW, count on me to support your railgun idea.
I like the railgun idea. Also, should it require Lvl 3 Infrastructure in order for it to be transported, since the maxed out Infra in this game looks like railroads? It would put Infrastructure to use.
It is called a RAILgun, so I think it should, but then for sure the speed should be increased.IISpikeII wrote:

But i guess the unit will hardly be used, if thats put into place, so they would then need to improve fire power to balance it out, and make it worth building.
I mean we need paratroopers with at least 150 km flightrange 10 att. 2 def vs infantry 5 att 3 def vs armor and 1 def vs flyer. I mean we need cyborgs with +20 att and 200 km shotrange and 120 kmh speed. i mean....ChrisPerrien wrote:

Why the hell you need to buff railguns? 1 railgun can def province from disembark every number of undeffed units. railgun is mostly out of range of marine units. ok .5 - .8 would be great but you want more then 15 time stronger then yet. And speed buff? 30 - 40 kmh??? Really? 10 railguns with 10 motoinfantry and you kill everything you want? It is not even a joke.
Couldn't agree more F118!
I think the reason why the RG are underpowered is because their outdated? There primary use is for defence, I welcome the RG because I'm a defence oriented player but Arty are just more economical, a little boost on attack isn't bad to compensate the cost, but the speed should stay the same.
