I think, with the installation of the newest map, which I am sure everyone has seen and heard of on this forum, that eventually a more realistic modern-day map be released. This would be very difficult to balance, and maybe it wouldn't be balanced at all (like the Blitzkrieg map), but hey, let's give it a shot.
I have compiled a list of 50 countries (by sitting in front of my world map and just jotting down relatively strong countries) that could be played with this new map. It is half the number of players as the current World Map because the current map has different countries broken up, most notably China, Russia, Canada, Australia, the United States, and Brazil, and also bunches countries together, most notably Korea, Upper Volta, French Sudan, and Mauritania.
USA
Canada
Mexico
Brazil
Argentina
Columbia
Peru
Bolivia
Algeria
Morocco
Mauritania
Mali
Niger
Chad
Nigeria
Libya
Egypt
Sudan
Ethiopia
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Tanzania
Mozambique
Angola
South Africa
Madagascar
Australia
Indonesia
New Zealand
Malaysia
Philippines
Burma (Myanmar)
Thailand
Vietnam
China
Japan
India
Iran
Saudi Arabia
Syria
Iraq
Russia
Spain
Italy
France
Germany
Turkey
Sweden
United Kingdom of Northern Ireland and Great Britain
Ukraine
Finland
Very flexible and changeable. But I think this is reasonable and see no reason why it should not be added at a later date (other than Africa being pretty packed with countries).

I was expecting something like this to be the current world map, except all the countries with colonies would keep those colonies, so instead of having 100 countries, or 50 countries, you'd have closer to 30 playable countries. This would be nice because it would be easier to organize games on the forums, and the countries with lots of colonies could be balance by making most of the provinces non-core.

I was thinking of this and then a colonies map too, I just didn't post it.

Phew! Thought you'd missed it.
P.S. The announcement says that the world map is like that for balancing purposes, but that it might change in the future.
