I totally agree! Mine just ended today, with first place getting 1,202 gold. Not nearly enough for the hassle you spend on the World Map.
World Map and Gold Payout (An opinion)
I believe the frustration, strategies used, and all out blood-pit the world map offers, the payout is much too low.
I finished the world map in day 55 in first place with 2,608 VP. The payout? A mere 942 gold. One can earn that much easily in a 22-player map with much less frustration!

Let me give an example of an alliance game I reached 1st place in. Day 43, 129 VPs with a payout of 411 Gold. That's roughly 3.2x payout of the VP

With research slowed down on World Maps, it is more difficult to reach a point of power-through-tech. This means we effectively have to use grunt-units early on in order to maintain a position of power. This requires more effort and time involvement than standard games.
And yet, you only get a THIRD of your VP in World Maps? With anything truly useful in gold expenditure costing at least 1,700 Gold, I think this is a real kick in the ass, catering to Gold buyers.

While i don't play the world map due to not being able to make my own private game (thb, i'd like to use the map for private training sessions against AI) i do play the 22 player map and the 10 player 1939 map, both of which normally pay out more.
I feel for the size of the map, the amount of sound strategy you need, the pay out should be around 1,500-2000 gold- for the winner, of course.

I totally understand the push to get players to buy Gold. However, you will also please non-buyers more for rewarding them for excelling in your game.

So low payout? Lol, that's nice to know. May be we need 10% Goldusage payout? it would be pretty interresting, and it would breake huge goldusage.
Is this by design or just a bug? Every moderator in help channel and on the forums has confirmed that gold payouts on ANY map should be around 3 to 1. That said, winning the 100 man map which requires 3323 VP should give you a payout of around 10K gold.
Can someone in charge verify this? If gold payouts are indeed this low (one-third instead of 3:1) for a match that takes so much time/energy, why would anyone play it? There needs to be a decent prize for a tough competition. I guess it is back to 22 player matches!
I have higher payouts for the 22-player maps
