Factions - Astra Militarum

The massed regiments of the Astra Militarum, also known as the Imperial Guard, make up Humanity’s largest armies. Men and women are conscripted to serve as Imperial Guardsmen – the trained soldiers of the Astra Militarum – and they fight alongside battle tanks and artillery, all under the command of the armies’ officers.

Traitorous heretics, alien monsters and supernatural abominations: all these terrors and more press in upon the Imperium from all sides, any one of them enough to drive their victims insane. Yet against them all, the Astra Militarum stands firm. What its soldiers lack in genetic augmentation and arcane weapons, they more than make up for immense firepower, thunderous tanks and crushing weight of numbers.

The Imperial Guard wage wars of attrition, throwing forward waves of soldiers and pounding the foe with heavy cannon fire in grinding offensives and implacable defences. To fight such costly campaigns, the Imperium imposes a tax of people on its million worlds. Almost every planet churns out an endless stream of infantry and war engines.

Though their weapons, equipment and uniforms may differ depending on their planet of origin, the soldiers know they are all part of the much larger Imperial war machine. Each one has a place in the chain of command and is trained to heed their officers with unwavering obedience. The officers themselves are ingrained with the conviction to command without doubt, and to inspire the soldiers beneath them to fight on in the Emperor’s name.
