Supremacy 1914Play Now

Commanders,

A few weeks ago, alongside the feedback we receive every day on Discord, we invited a group of veteran players to participate in a dedicated focus group. Together we played a game of Supremacy 1914: Definitive Edition, giving players the opportunity to discuss the Unity client directly with our development team.

Thanks again to all the participants of this focus group. We had a lot of fruitful discussion and learned a lot. Your feedback and suggestions have been invaluable in helping us shape the future of the Definitive Edition.

Here is an update on what we are currently working on and our next steps.

Stability First

For the past two weeks our primary focus has been stability. We were able to address a lot of different crashes, affecting both the iOS and the Android versions of the app. Currently we are seeing a very stable play environment on both versions, allowing us to shift our primary focus toward gameplay improvements and usability.

Improving Readability and Gameplay

One of the biggest topics raised by both our focus group participants and our Discord community was map readability.

We created a dedicated development track for issues like sizing and popping of labels, Borders, Unit visibility and Map elements.

These changes require a lot of technical work, but we are making good progress. The first improvements to unit labels will arrive in an upcoming update, followed by visual improvements for borders and units.

New Features

We are also experimenting with a few new features to improve quality of life and make the battlefield easier to read.

Production overview toggle

We are introducing a toggleable option to display which provinces are active in producing units or constructing buildings on higher zoom levels. This gives you a quick overview of which provinces are idle and where you can produce a mightier army.

Unit selection highlights

We are working on a way for selected units to be highlighted. This allows better visibility of what is selected, increasing map readability

Map Rotation

This feature makes full use of the unity engine, allowing you to rotate the map and see your battles from a different perspective. The best part? It's already live! Check it out in Supremacy 1914: Definitive Edition and immerse yourselves in your battles!

Areas we continue to explore

There are some topics brought up by the community that we are currently carefully analyzing so we can ship a satisfying solution. Topics include:

  • Unit vs map contrast
  • Unit / label clutter / unit dance
  • Safe area for top and bottom map menus
  • Label redesign (Hero included) to grant more info and map visibility

We're also continuing to iterate on the UI and HUD, as this remains one of the most common pieces of community feedback. We'd like to share an early preview of some of these improvements and hear your first impressions:

Keep in mind these are work in progress mockups (as you could probably tell by the placeholder text :P)

Please let us know your thoughts.

Additional Improvements

There are a few other smaller things that will arrive within the next releases:

  • Higher flight altitude for aircraft
  • Grounded visuals for idle air units
  • Improved idle presentation for naval units
  • War borders
  • Better harbor selection for provinces with multiple embarkation points
  • Attack art display and Hero special skill display updates
  • Menu layout adjustments based on the legacy client
  • Switching News default entry to Front News instead of Newspaper

Thank you
